January photos in Thailand

Two sets from my visit to Thailand.

First photo set was from a 9 temple tour through central Thailand.  I saw many Buddha statues of many sizes.

Second set is from Lumpini Park in Bangkok.  The park is adjacent to the subway and monorail and has many recreational activities available.

Flood Remains

The view outside my dad's condo here in Bangkok includes this empty lot.  A movie theater once occupied this space, but it burned down many years ago.

Flood debris

Last year's floods reached this area.  It was about 1 meter deep around here.  Above you can see a ton of neighborhood junk.

Road cleaned

A couple of days ago I heard some strange noise and looked out to see a clean up crew.  They took a few hours to clear out the road, since heavy traffic made it hard for the trucks to haul the junk out.  I was surprised they cleared out some of the trees.

Blue and Green: a difference of one meter

Both of these photos were shot with automatic settings and with the flash off.  Strange what a difference 1 meter makes.

I was a bit bummed the Taipei soda machines only take coins.

I went to a theater to see a movie 23 times in 2011

First Run Movies I saw in 2011

Tron 2 - AMC Woodland Hills
Silly fun, great music.  Didn't like the staff at the theater

Thor - AMC Universal Citywalk
A bit of a letdown, but enjoyable.  One of my favorite theaters in LA with two balconies and a a full IMAX.

Hangover 2 - CGV Cinemas - Koreatown
Adlibs copy of the first, but laughs were had.  Nice theater.

Attack the Block - Arclight Hollywood
Fantastic.  Ace theater.

Super 8 - Cineramadome - Arclight Hollywood
A wannabe classic.  The Dome is one of LA's landmark movie theaters every movie fan should visit.

Xmen First Class - Regency North Hollywood
Good movie for a shit theater.

Captain America - UA Horton Plaza
My favorite so far of the Avengers series.  Shit theater.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 - RAVE IMAX
Better than the book.  Full sized IMAX is always a pleaser.  Bonus cool points for the make your own soda machines.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - VISTA Theater
Lots of fun if you've seen the old Apes movies.  One of my favorite theaters in LA

Adventures of TinTin - AMC Burbank IMAX
Wonderful fun.  Great use of 3D.  Half IMAX was pretty good.

Mission Impossible 4 - Regency Van Nuys
Went in with low expectations.  Had fun.  Mediocre theater.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Regency Van Nuys
Enjoyed it, but the ending dragged.

Special screenings I saw this year

Raiders marquee
Raiders of the Lost Arc - LA Live Regal Cinema
Fantastic digital restoration.  Nice theater.

Big Trouble in Little China - Egyptian Theater
Why did I wait so long to see this?  Best big screen in LA.

Love Exposure - Silent Movie Theater
A good four hour confusion. Japanese cinema at its weirdest.  Great little theater

Redline - Downtown Independent
A crazy anime racing movie with a great rocking soundtrack.  Great seating.

#battleroyale at the Silent Movie Theater
Battle Royale - Silent Movie Theater
A cult classic I enjoyed with a great audience.

Screenings at the New Beverly Cinema
The New Beverly is one of LA's great treasures.  Cheap popcorn and drinks combine with lots of great movies and surprise guests makes it my favorite movie theater.

Marquee at New Beverly
Dirty Harry + The SuperCops
A double bill with cops who don't follow the rules.

Turtle Power
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
As good as I remember it.

Grindhouse plus Machete
Grindhouse ( Planet Terror + Deathproof) + Machete
A Tarantino and Rodriguez triple feature.  Good times.  Sad I missed the good stuff during the Deathproof credits.

20110327498
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair
Really cool to see both in one sitting.  Little extras added for the double feature as well.

2011-12-03-025
Rushmore + The Royal Tenenbaums
The first had me smiling the whole way through.  The second was bittersweet.

2011-12-10-032
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
I've lost track of how many times I have seen this in a theater.
