Rocktober 2011

Not too many shows compared to years previous, but lots of fun nonetheless.

N8 | Costume contest

The first show was actually in the end of September.  MC Chris headlined a show at the Troubadour filled with nerdy/geeky acts.  There was even a costume contest.  I felt really old, as the crowd was mostly kids in their teens or early twenties.

This was followed up with a Jane's Addiction appearance for the Jimmy Kimmel show.  Along the way, I stopped at the new Chick-fil-a in Hollywood for some nuggets. (YUM!)  The crowd for Jimmy Kimmel was mostly older than me.  Jane's played a short set of 4 songs.  There were streamers at the beginning of their hit Stop that got the crowd going.  The only drawback to this show ere the tall dudes in front of me.

Next up was the LA101 festival presented by LA Weekly at the Gibson Amphitheater.  After ribs at Tony Romas and a coffee from Starbucks I headed to the show.  Outside the venue, I saw a few vendors and a few foodtrucks.  I headed inside to find my seats, which were all the way to the right and in the back.

After Delta Spirit's set, I moved over to the middle area and found some empty seats.  Built to Spill was next, they were okay.  Tokyo Police Club were next.  They said they barely got off their plane and to the venue.  I liked that they did a group high five to start their set.  The Airborne Toxic Event was the headliner. They were amazing.  They were backed with a full orchestra and a girl's choir.  The band themselves played lots of different instruments.  Great show.  Looking forward to checking out their material.

I missed out on seeing Foo Fighters, but it was still a good Rocktober.
